Paramore Big Cheese Cover

Paramore "Big Cheese" Cover

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Sounds of Sunday.  I’m not really 100% digging this Blog Template … and I’m going to head over to the Revolution web site to see if there’s anything new and improved there that I can tweak instead.  This one won’t allow me to place a video on the home page – and I sort of miss having that.   So that’s my lame excuse for not producing a SoS in awhile.

I have been listening to some fantastic music of late – mostly from the Twilight Soundtrack.  My son considers me totally Emo now … all that I’m missing is the black clothing, hair and nail polish apparently.  But you know … I have seen some really great dark colored nail polish.  I totally could see myself wearing that more than I would some sort of fire engine red or pale pink.  I’m not really a girlie girl … I lean towards the most natural look of all – NO MAKEUP!  I didn’t even color my hair until I started going grey – and then I do it only because of necessity.  I don’t feel old enough for grey hair yet .. but every once in awhile I do consider letting it go natural as well just to see what it looks like.

Wait .. scattrerbrained me .. we were talking about MUSIC!   The Twilight soundtrack as a whole is a rather dark collection of music.  Obviously – the movie was about Vampires so you have to expect a little goth in the sound.  But really it’s a brilliant collection – I’ve heard all of the mainstream artists get air time on the radio – so you know it’s good.

Some have criticized “Bellas Lulaby” – which was included on the Soundtrack – as being “too big”.  They want to hear just the piano – because in the book this is all Edward had available to compose the song.  But I like to hear the orchestra behind the piano because it tells the full story.  Without the backing music – the piano would seem too thin.  And we know that love is DEEP … so the lullaby should be as well.

If I had to pick a favorite off the Soundtrack it would have to be … gosh .. that’s difficult.  They’re all good.  So rather than picking my favorite to feature I’ll pick an artist I haven’t featured here before.  They say that Female Rock artists are a dying breed – but then you listen to groups like Paramore to know that girls can rock out just as well as the boys do.

Here’s Decode from the Twilight Soundtrack by Paramore – enjoy!

I had heard this week’s Sounds Of Sunday pick before the Grammy’s .. but I didn’t pay much attention to who was performing the song.  I am really loving the throw-back sound of the female artists coming out right now.   It’s time I featured one of these brilliant ladies in SOS!

Adele at just 19 years old -this young lady has some powerful vocal skills!  Her souffle sound comes from her influences – Etta James, Jill Scott, Peggy Lee .. just to name a few.   And Adele’s personality is just so genuine.  She hasn’t been groomed yet by the American Music Industry – and it is refreshing to see the pure emotion and utter giddiness of a young lady discovering that the world is hers to take!

Adele wrote the music for this album – which just amazes me.  She tells us in her bio that the songs are all about being 18 almost 19 – and that they are about love.  About a boy she was in love with.  And if that doesn’t scream 1950′s teen angst – I don’t know what else would!

Here is Adele’s Grammy Award Winning song – Chasing Pavements – from the 19 Album.

My all time favorite Monkee’s song:

For Pete’s Sake – The Monkees
Love is understanding
but you know that this is true
Love is understanding
it’s in everything we do

In this generation (In this generation)
In this loving time (In this loving time)
In this generation
We will make the world shine

We were born to love one another
This is something we all need
We were born to love one another
We must be what we’re going to be
and all we have to be is free

In this generation (In this generation)
In this loving time (In this loving time)
In this generation
We will make the world shine

We were born to love one another
This is something we all need
We were born to love one another
We must be what we’re going to be
and all we have to be is free

Love is understanding (In this generation)
we gotta be free
Love is understanding (In this generation)
we gotta be free
In this generation (In this generation)
Love is understanding (In this generation)
we gotta be free
We gotta be free
We gotta be free (In this generation)
