  • Share/Bookmark

In the way of personal journal bloggers across the blogasphere, I’ve decided to start a 100 Things About ME page.  I’ve finally finished the list … and am posting it here for you to judge me.  Be kind!  I reserve the right to adjust this whenever I see fit!!

  1. I was born in Gourock, Scotland – a little town just north of Glasgow on the River Clyde, on June 23rd 1968.
  2. My cousin was born just two days after I was in the exact same hospital.
  3. I have two sisters, one older, one younger. That makes me the peacemaker middle child.
  4. My birthstone is either Alexandrite or Pearl – depends on who you ask. I prefer Alexandrite – as it’s a rare stone to find and changes colors according to the light. It’s unique like me,
  5. My birthday makes me a Cancer in the contemporary zodiac, and a Monkey in the Chinese zodiac. Which might be why my Uncle jim called me his little monkey when I was born – but then why did he call my cousin his little space man?
  6. I never knew my grandparents – really. But I’m way in to Genealogy – and feel it’s important to know as much about your family history as possible. If you don’t know where you’ve come from – how do you know where you’re going?
  7. Speaking of ancestors, I am lucky to have my paternal grandmothers kitchen hutch and some glass that belonged to her. AND I have a few pieces of china from my maternal grandmother as well. This stuff is priceless to me!
  8. At one time or another during childhood I wanted to be a ballerina, actress, teacher, vet, and then the mother of six children. The only career choice to come close to any of this was my 3 years working in promotions at a local TV station.
  9. I love music, and my favorite classical artist is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He was a brilliant musician – and a bit on the nutty side. I love eccentricity in a person!
  10. I love robots. Tin wind up ones from back in the 40’s and 50’s. I have some original artwork too by Fred Wilder – of his Handsome Robot series. Robots rule!
  11. I started signing in second grade and haven’t stopped since. Though these days I sing mostly in the shower.
  12. My favorite color is purple-blue. Not just any purple-blue, but the color of the sky on a really fresh, clear spring day when you look straight up. It’s so pure in color – its heavenly.
  13. My least favorite color is – I dunno – beige. It’s just such a BLAH and boring color.
  14. I hate blank walls as well – there must be something hanging on them!
  15. I’m a spoiled Princess. I’m materialistic – as much as I don’t want to admit it. I like to have nice things … and when I see something I want I typically buy it for myself.
  16. I believe that money is meant to spend … sure it’s good to having savings for your old age .. but what happens if that day never comes? All that money is wasted … when you could have used it to enjoy life! There is a happy medium between spending too much .. and saving too much. I would like to say I’m finding that happy medium.
  17. I love music .. and I love to laugh! To me they go hand in hand .. and life really isn’t worth living without them. Music is my religion .. it’s something I am so completely passionate about I don’t know what I would do without it.
  18. While I was raised a good catholic girl … I think I gave up on God when I realized he gave up on mankind. I don’t believe the God I was taught to believe in would allow the atrocities in life to occur. I think He became so disgusted with what was happening on Earth .. that He turned his back and is now allowing us to destroy one another. If there truly is a God .. he’s looking down and laughing at us all.
  19. I was raised Catholic, but lost interest in the church when I found I couldn’t question any of its teachings.
  20. When tracing my family tree – following my ancestors – I discovered that my Irish and Scottish ancestors were Pagan and Druid. Which is probably where my fascination with fairy tales and magical things has come from. To the other extreme, I’ve found that some of my Polish ancestors may have been Mennonite, and my Finish ancestors may have been Jewish.
  21. I don’t know if I believe in Heaven or Hell … but I do know that every single day I wish I’d see the ghost of Jim. Just to know he’s OK … for him to tell me I’m going to be OK.
  22. I can be very selfish … there are times in the past when I’ve been ashamed of that. But I’ve learned through life that the only person I can count on is ME. If I don’t take care of myself .. no one else will. And to be slightly selfish is a method of survival and I see nothing wrong with it.
  23. I am a compassionate person. I can’t watch the evening news without crying at least three or four times. I see the terrible things happening around the world .. and my heart literally aches. I’ve stopped watching the news because of this .. and I try to focus on all the positive things that surround me.
  24. I love men! And I don’t get along well with other women. I’m somewhat of a hermit – but when I bond with someone as a friend in real life -more than likely they are male. I don’t have any real life friends at the moment .. and while some may see that as sad – I find peace in the solitude.
  25. I am incredibly shy! And I believe in love at first site. When you’ve met “THE ONE” – you know it deep down in your soul. Of the long term relationships I’ve had in my life … I’ve married them both. My first real boyfriend was hubby #1. And then 2 years after we divorced, I met Jim. So I’ve never really dated … I have no idea how it all works .. and I’m not sure I even want to attempt that whole scene at my age. I figure .. if it’s meant to be .. fate will find a way to make it happen. I’m going with the flow .. and just trying to live a happy life .. and that’s all I can do for now.
  26. When you become part of my life – whether in virtual reality or real life – you hold onto a piece of my heart forever. Even those few people I dislike the most. I’m fiercely loyal – and will defend not only myself and my family – but those I call friend as well – till death if need be.
  27. My family is the number one entity in my life – without them I wouldn’t be who I am today. Your family is the ONLY entity in life that will love you – no matter what happens.
  28. I’m very stubborn .. and being a logical thinker .. I can be a force to reckon with in a work environment. I don’t play well with others – because when I truly believe my way will work best – I have trouble seeing any other method. When interviewing for my next job I’ve promised myself to be completly open about this aspect of my personality – because in the past I’ve been told that I really don’t socialize well at work. It’s something I worked on at my last job … socializing at work .. and I finally found the first work environment where I thought I fit in. There are days I want to go back .. but I know financially that isn’t possible.
  29. I’ve learned that the dreams we hold don’t always come true. I’ve finally come to peace with that .. and am learning to compromise and adjust my dreams to fit into my life. I may never own my own gift store .. but I can find a job where I’m happy. I don’t want to have a thriving career like some. I want a job where I’m happy .. where I can stay for the next 20 years. One that pays me enough to survive, and allows me the free time I need to continue writing. Because really .. your job is something that you do to make money so that you can live the rest of your life!! Your job should NEVER BECOME your life.
  30. Right now I’m lonely – and I’m doing my best to make those positive changes in life to correct that problem. I’m going to allow life to go along on cruise control for the next year .. and see what happens. It’s going to be hard for me to not be in control … but .. I think I just need to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride for awhile.
  31. I am afraid of snakes – in a total girly way. Even if it’s just a little teeny garden snake – I will freak out. Just last night I had a fit when a teeny tiny itsy bitsy snake was on the back porch. My son had to go out and scare it away so I could let the dog in the house.
  32. I’m also slightly afraid of the dark and of thunder storms. Though as I’ve grown older I think the fear of tornadoes is more urgent.
  33. OK – I’ll admit to be slightly claustrophobic as well .. happy?!
  34. My favorite domestic animal is … hmmm … well my own dog and cat. Ha ha! I love them both to death but will never get another pet once they go. Well perhaps I’ll get another cat. We’ll see – usually cats pick you and you don’t have a say in the matter.
  35. My favorite wild animal is a Panda Bear. My favorite bird is a Warbler – they have such pretty songs to sing.
  36. I am addicted to reality television – as if you hadn’t already figured that out reading my blog. My favorite Reality Show is The Mole.
  37. I do love regular TV as well and am sad that the 2008 season will be ER’s last. I don’t technically have a favorite normal TV show – but I do love HEROES and LOST as well as House, Grey’s Anatomy and Big Bang Theory.
  38. My favorite movies are: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory – both old and new versions; City of Angels, Ghost, Far and Away, Practical Magic, and most recently PS I Love you. You can sense a theme – I love an emotion filled romantic drama. Perhaps because my own love story ended this same way?
  39. I LOVE LOVE LOVE musicals and musical theater. I would spend my entire day inside a theater if I had an opportunity. To be swept away into a muical world .. what a fantasty?! My favorite to date had been Phantom .. but Wicked quickly took first place in my heart after I saw the tour this past year. Also RENT will always hold a special place in my theater heart.
  40. My favorite actors are George Clooney and Johnny Depp. I don’t really fall for actors though, I’m more of a rock n roll lover.
  41. My favorite actresses are Meg Ryan, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kiddman. If I could have Nicoles hair I’d be a very happy lady!
  42. My favorite author is … hmmmm … well I do love Nora Roberts, Elizabeth George, and JK Rowling. I love to read breakout authors as some of their first books are really good!
  43. My favorite book …. The only one I’ve kept through the ages is ONE by Richard Bach. The message it tells … the concept of alternate and parell lives taking place at the same time as the life we each know … fascinates me. The choices we make in life lead us on different paths … and each choice leaves behind an alternate us. It’s something to think about.
  44. My favorite activity is to read. I read whenever I get the chance. It lends itself to the whole bohemian hermit lifestyle I’m trying to portray.
  45. I think I’ve forgotten what it is like to interact on a social level with other people. I guess locking myself away for the past two years has made me a rather selfish person. Either that or I just don’t give a damn what anyone else thinks anymore.
  46. My second favorite thing to do is listen to music. I usually have music playing in the background throughout the day.
  47. I secretly don’t want to go back to work. I said to my mother the other day “Why can’t I just stay home and be me!” Because I know that once I return to work I’ll have to pretend to be someone I’m not. I’ll have to compromise myself in order to get through a work day. I’m not 100% too happy about that … but it might be a sacrifice I need to make in order to actually live! After all … I need money to keep my home … and to get money I have to work.
  48. I don’t want to mistrust or dislike people generally. Sometimes though I can’t help but wonder if there are any good people left in the world. I even wonder if I’m still a good person.
  49. My favorite food is pizza, pineapple and chocolate – not all at the same time – but now that I think about it a Chocolate drizzled pineapple pizza might actually be good.
  50. My drink of choice is Diet Coke. I haven’t had a sip of alcohol since last year … and I have to admit I don’t really like the idea of getting drunk. I do have a taste for Lemon Drop Martini’s though. They are GOOD!
  51. I DO NOT eat seafood. Yuck yuck YUCK! Nor do I eat eggs or milk. I dislike almost all cheese except cheddar and American. I think I might be lactose intolerant because I get really ill when I eat too much ice cream or cheese.
  52. I would rather be too cold than too warm. If you’re cold – you can ALWAYS put on another layer of clothing, or dive under another blanket. AS a woman, when you get too warm there’s only so many clothes you can take off in public before getting arrested! Besides – I hate to sweat more than I hate to shiver.
  53. I’ve never been arrested or in trouble with the law. The worst driving violation I’ve had is a warning for driving on the shoulder to get to the right turn lane early. And there was a parking ticket incident my family will never let me forget.
  54. My favorite band is U2, and has been since I first heard of them in 1985.
  55. Anyone that knows me knows that I’m infatuated with Bono – the lead singer of u2 – for all of the GOOD things he does in the world. He makes me want to be a better person. I love him in a non-sexual way … it’s his mind that fascinates me.
  56. The best concerts I’ve been to have all been U2 concerts – but the one that stands out is the Joshua Tree tour. It was in Hampton, VA – the last stop before U2 filmed their Rattle & Hum movie. I was in the THIRD ROW – and was looking all around the arena … watching all of those people signing and dancing and screaming for U2. It was unreal … and the energy in the arena indescribable. I turned back to the stage – and Bono was watching ME! We shared a secret smile, and he jumped up and started singing again.
  57. I will never forget that moment. Ever.
  58. I don’t wear a watch – or much jewelry for that matter. When I was 11 years old I had my ears pierced. My body reacted badly to the earrings and my neck swelled up like a balloon. I remember the male doctors were all scratching their heads .. wanting to test me for lymphoma and leukemia .. then a blonde female doctor walked up and asked if they had tried taking my earrings out. Sure enough, a week later the swelling had gone away. Turns out my body was attempting to reject the foreign objects – aka the earrings – and my white blood cells caused the fluid to build up in my neck. To this day I’m afraid to get anything pierced .. and I’m always afraid that I’ll have to have surgery that will require pins that my body will reject.
  59. I am vastly afraid of doctors and hospitals and will do anything and everything to avoid going to see them. My blood pressure goes through the roof while I wait to see one .. and sometimes that wait can be up to 2 hours long.
  60. I hate waiting. It’s a control issue. I can’t control the length of time it takes for something to be done … so it drives me crazy.
  61. I believe that there is life on other planets, and at one point in childhood I was convinced I was an alien child left behind. I was so different than everyone else, I literally thought I was part of some grand master alien race and that one day they would come and rescue me from earth. Hasn’t happened yet …
  62. There are days I still wish I were an alien and could leave the planet!
  63. I love the smell of diesel fuel. I know .. it’s a strange scent to love. IT reminds me of Guy Fawkes night … a carnival in Scotland. Of Candy Apples and fair rides. Of bonfires and magic. Anytime a bus passes by I’m instantly transported back to that one event in my childhood.
  64. I often wish I had woodworking skills, and envy carpenters for what they can do.
  65. I’m a do-it-yourself kinda girl. However – when I do attempt to do things myself – I usually end up messing them up. That’s why I hire people to do the big jobs.
  66. While I don’t necessarily believe in one God .. I do have this unfaltering belief in Fate. I think that events in our life happen for very specific reasons. That in order for us to move on .. those sequence of events have to take place.
  67. I do believe in magic, in mediums, the paranormal, ghosts, and all the halloweenie type things that go bump in the night.
  68. That’s why I sleep with a baseball bat under my bed, a night lite, and the house alarm securely armed!
  69. The place I most want to visit but haven’t yet is Australia.
  70. The place I most want to visit but have been to before is Scotland.
  71. Other places I want to visit include Kermacki, Finland – where I’ve traced my Finish ancestors to being from.
  72. My Polish ancestors were Pig Farmers before coming to the United States.
  73. The one thing in the world I am officially allergic to is Pig Weed … a plant only found on pig farms. If this is a genetic allergy – it’s a good thing my ancestors left Poland!
  74. I loathe people who are not open to accepting people who have thoughts and beliefs different from theirs.
  75. All right … I’ll admit …. I loathe most people.
  76. Note that I did not say I hate them. I try very hard not to hate anything or anybody. Hate is one step away from love … it’s the same emotion. One is sad and angry , the other happy.
  77. Perhaps loathing people isn’t the right word either. I do have an inherent mistrust of anyone new, and it takes a very long time for anyone to get to know me. I won’t allow them in!
  78. I live in a house that is much too big for me. I love this house, the view, and the potential. Its something I always wished I had.
  79. I have a huge back yard that I can’t wait to have landcaped. I love flowers … living plants .. not cut flowers. I guess I like to surround myself with beautiful things.
  80. I love nature and used to love spending time outside whenever I could.
  81. Now I’m afraid of skin cancer and avoid the sun as much as possible.
  82. There are times I feel that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be .. and other times I feel completely lost.
  83. I auditioned for the reality shows The Biggest Loser and Fat March. I was in the top 200 for consideration .. but I’m sure the fact I blogged about my casting experiences kept me out of the finals.
  84. I have mixed feelings over that time in my life … and the people and events that followed.
  85. Willo’s Web is my first blog … though it’s original version was over at blogger.com. It has morphed into various topics to suit my needs at the time. The highest readership came in when I spilled spoilers and leaked information on the show The Biggest Loser.
  86. There are some secrets about the show I still know .. but I refuse to share. It’s not worth being sued over. Hahaha!
  87. I am a true blue liberal democrat … though occasionally I find myself having conservative tendencies. I’m too soft hearted to survive in a Conservative world.
  88. While I may care about certain issues .. I’m not 100% knowledgeable about politics. I’m not afraid to admit I’d rather follow the everyday antics of everyday people than know whats going on in the political world. I can’t control what our politicians do – so I’ve developed an attitude of denial I guess.
  89. I did poorly in history class – because I wanted to learn about the culture of the society at the time .. and not who signed what paper bringing whatever in to law.
  90. I think my dream job would be to write as a TV critic. To get paid to review TV shows … HEAVEN!
  91. Second dream job would be to have my own talk radio show to talk about said TV shows .. and the gossip surrounding the production of the shows. I don’t care what the stars themselves are doing … I care about what goes on in production behind the camera!!
  92. I generally don’t like talking about myself and am running out of things to say.
  93. I’m glad the Internets were invented. It allows us to talk to people on the other side of the world .. brining us as humans a bit closer together.
  94. But in the same vein of thought .. the Internets also keep us from communication as humans face-to-face .. and that’s sort of sad.
  95. I sometimes wish I lived in a small village where everyone knew everyone else … and everyone knew your business. I always feel that would be someplace you always had a friend. You’d feel less lonely and part of something.
  96. I know I was put on this planet for a specific purposes … but damn if I know what that purpose is!
  97. Have I already fulfilled my duty to the planet and am just passing time till I die?
  98. I’m secretly flattered that people like to read what I write here at my blog. It feeds my rather tiny ego …makes me feel like people do care.
  99. I am trying to become a better person … I don’t know if I’ll succeed.
  100. I am so happy that I am finished figuring out 100 things about me!!
