Background Information – Everything You Wanted To Know And Were Too Polite To Ask
{Or … stuff you didn’t really want to know but I’ll tell you anyway!}

Since this blog is by me … about me … you should probably know a little background info first. Don’t sweat it – I won’t bore you with ALL the details. Just a few highlights so you can understand my way of thinking a bit better.

Born amidst the Heather one sunny day, I lived the beginning years of my youth in bonny Scotland. Many people ask me what I remember most about my time abroad – my response is always the sweets! Afterall, Great Britain is the home of Cadburry – the best chocolatier on the planet.

The family packed up our tartan and bagpipes in my pre-teen years. Dad being a US Navy man, we were transferred back to the good old US of A. I went through a few tourturous years with an accent, but quickly learned to adapt to my surroundings and blend in. Middle School kids are vicious – if you are different in any way they will make your life hell! Speaking of hell – high school wasn’t any better! But I survived and graduated just a few weeks before my 17th birthday.

Fast forward to the night of my 21st birthday – this is the day I met my first husband – the father of my son. It was a whirlwind romance, we were engaged a few months later and married within one year. Unfortunately, my new hubby was also in the Navy – and he was stationed aboard a ship headed straight to the Persian War. I think he spent more time out at sea during our short marriage than he did at home. Finally – we were transferred to Orlando!!! It looked like my last ditch effort to get hubby involved in our lives – my son and I. But hubby had other plans. Within a few months he became involved with a 19 year old girl – one of his ‘recruits’ – and I divorced him. Knowing full well he’d be court martialed if his superiors found out about the trist – hubby signed the divorce papers on the dotted line without contesting the child support payments or the division of property. Let the moral of this story be – Don’t marry the guy you meet when you’re celebrating your 21st birthday!!!!

So – I was a single mom for 4 years before I met my current hubby. We’ve been married almost 9 years now – geez – time flies by when you’re in love! I was able to return to college and complete my degree in Communications and find a job I loved in television!! Unfortunately, the job I loved turned into a real nightmare when a new owner purchased our station. Our office was moved to the other side of town – an hour drive from home on a good day. The commute and some concerns over hubby’s health became so stressful I decided to find a new job closer to home.

Again – it looked like a dream job had landed in my lap! I moved several rungs up the career ladder and worked just 5 minutes from home! Then – three hurricanes passed over our area in 2004. The business offices were completely destroyed and the company never really recovered financially. My last day of work was on August 18th 2005 – when the General Manager told me they would be unable to fulfill my employment agreement. At this point they owed me close to $20,000 in earned bonus money, commissions and a salary increase – all budgeted and approved at the beginning of the year. I decided it was time to leave -which brings me to today – day 53 of my job hunt – my eventual boredom and creation of the blog.
